Did You Know?
"The Fenton Art Glass Company was founded in 1905 by Frank L. Fenton and his brother John W. Fenton in an old glass factory building in Martins Ferry, Ohio. They began by painting decorations on glass blanks made by other glass manufacturers. Soon, being unable to get the glass they needed, they decided to produce their own glass. The first glass from the new Fenton factory in Williamstown, West Virginia, was made on January 2, 1907.
No two pieces of Fenton are alike and each resembles a rare piece of American history. All Fentonware is considered “collectible,” yet each piece is stand along and cherished by those who receive it as a gift."

Fenton Art Glass...made in the USA since 1905."

Update: The Fenton Art Glass Company announced in August 2007
that it would be ceasing its operation.

Collectors from across the country will gather at the National Insulator Association’s 2008 Central Regional Show on Saturday July 19 through Sunday, July 20, 2008. The show will be hosted by the Western Reserve Insulator Club beginning at 8 a.m. at the Quality Inn, located 4742 Brecksville Road, Richfield. Ohio, 44286, just south of the I-80 (the Ohio Turnpike). Over 50 tables hosted by collectors of antique glass and porcelain insulators will be available for free appraisal, education, as well as the sharing of the history and the fun of collecting. The show is open to the general public. Hobbyists include historians of telegraph, telephone, early power line distribution, railroad enthusiasts, or antique glass and porcelain collectors. Many of the tables will feature insulators and related items, such as lightening rod insulators and balls, radio strain insulators, and other related telecommunication and power distribution artifacts. Glass insulators were first produced in the 1850's for use with telegraph lines. As technology developed insulators were needed for telephone lines, electric power lines, and other applications. In the mid 1960's people began collecting these antique insulators. Today there are over 2000 collectors, over 20 insulator clubs across the United States and Canada, as well as a number of reference and pricing guides available for both glass and porcelain insulators. There is also a comprehensive website, www.insulators.info, containing a wealth of information on the hobby, and a listing of national and regional shows. The Western Reserve Insulator Club was formed in October 1999 to promote the history and collecting of glass and porcelain insulators and associated artifacts. The club has over 120 active members, primarily from Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. The club hosts four events each year, rotating at different locations within the region. The club newsletter is the Twiggs Times, which is published four times per year. Anyone interested in more information or becoming a member should contact the club via phone, email or the address listed below.
