    History is in motion at the 16th Annual Heritage Festival at McConnells Mill State Park. The festival celebrates the operational time period of the historical gristmill - from 1852 to 1928, and costumed vendors will display their crafts inspired by this time. Music and special tours of the mill will be offered. A new turbine has been installed in the McConnell’s gristmill to demonstrate corn grinding and the fascinating machinery that ground the grain for the community surrounding Slippery Rock Gorge. Entertainment for the festival includes bluegrass music, cloggers, and old time music. A civil war encampment brings history to life, and artisans & craftsmen will demonstrate their skills throughout the festival. Animals, games and face painting are available for children. Lots of good food! The Festival is sponsored by the Portersville-Prospect Rotary Club, aided by several local businesses and non-profit organizations.

    The Annual Derry Railroad Day Festival will start off 10 AM on Saturday with a big parade. Free entertainment runs from 11AM to 7PM and will include musical groups and dancers - plus this year we plan to have a local talent "Variety Hour" which should be great fun. Our downtown area will be filled with over 30 food, craft and information booths including all your favorite festival treats & eats, plus a wide assortment of medium-priced items such as jewelry, clothing, stained glass, pottery & much, much more. There will be chances for prizes and gift baskets plus a 50/50 drawing. We will have hay rides for the family and pony rides and miniature train rides for the kids. Children will love Juvenile Junction where they can make badges and crafts, plus get their face painted. Don't forget to visit our "2-Cabooses Railroad Museum" filled with interesting railroading artifacts. Our "Hobo Picnic" is back by popular demand this year too - it will be held the Thursday before our Railroad Day Festival.
