Hi my name is Donna Doyle and I am organizing an event to be held at the Quakertown Airport on October 3rd, 2009 from 9 to 5, raindate will be October 10. The event is called a Drop for Duchenne and Fall Festival to raise money for research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which my grandson was diagnosed with 2 years ago. The money will go to Parent Project MD Organization which is on the cutting edge of the research that just might save my grandson. The Drop is a Golf Ball Drop which will be held at the end of the day and we will have the festival running all day. We are not asking for a set up fee from the crafters but instead that they donate an item for our raffles. It's outside so they need to bring their own tables and canopies and there is no access to electric. But it is a way for crafters to make money since there is no set up fee. You can have as much space as you need. We have 20 crafters so far and are hoping to have 60 all together. There will be games for kids and a pumpkin decorating contest, and a scarecrow making contest. Food, music and plane rides. I will be doing an interview with John McDevitt on
KYW-news radio to promote the event as well as advertising in all of the newspapers. Since this is being put on by PA familes with boys with Duchenne there will be a lot of advertising. We want to feature as many artists and crafters as possible so to give the chance to exhibit and sell their wares and to make connections with the large and diverse festival audience. The Food and Fun Fest Committee is expected to heavily promote the festival in the months preceding the event in as many venues as possible. One of top Guild shows in PA, the Holiday Show offers museum quality examples of contemporary and traditional Pennsylvania folk artwork produced by more than 150 artisans who are members of the Reading-Berks
Chapter (which is the largest chapter in the Pennsylvania Guild) and other
juried craftsmen who are members of the Pennsylvania Guild. Together with the talented Guild artisans, select Kutztown University art students will be displaying and selling their art. Alumni have also been invited to participate, making this a historic gathering of artists.
Visitors to the show may choose from several genres - assorted arts, basketry, clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, paper, photography and wood. Traditional holiday show favorites are stained glass, hooked rugs, pressed and dried flower art, furniture, woodworking, ceramics, wearables, tole and folk art paintings and holiday collectibles, including
Santas. The Acoustic Roadshow, featuring a variety of talented local musicians, will be performing both popular and original musical entertainment throughout the event. Dori Martin Catering is providing refreshments in a special café seating area. The show features live holiday music and a "Pick-A-Prize" Raffle of handcrafted items, each worth $50 or more and created by Guild artisans. You can preview the raffle items at the Guild’s website. Door prizes also are given away every hour on both days.
